  4. Software and Hardware Requirements

  6. The Digital Light & Color Slide Show Viewer requires Windows 3.1 or later (or
  7. Windows for Workgroups) running in enhanced mode or Windows 95 or NT. It will
  8. run with virtually any display, but for the best results, you should configure
  9. your display for 256 or more colors.

  13. To install the Digital Light & Color Slide Show Viewer from a floppy disk,
  14. bring up Windows and run the file INSTALL.EXE on the disk. This will copy
  15. the appropriate files to your disk and create a program group for Slide Show
  16. Viewer.

  18. Uninstallation
  19.  
  20. To uninstall the Digital Light & Color Slide Show Viewer, simply delete the
  21. Viewer directory and all the files in it. The installer makes no changes
  22. to your system files.

  24. Running the Digital Light & Color Slide Show Viewer -- Quick Start
  25.  
  26. To run the viewer, simply double-click its icon. To load a slide show for
  27. viewing click the menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select
  28. "Load Slide Show ...". Then select the name of the slide show you wish to
  29. view and click OK. The viewer will then load the slide show and display an
  30. overview of the images it contains. To view an image full-screen, just click
  31. on it. To play all the images in sequence, select "Auto Play" from the menu.
  32. For more detailed instructions, press the F1 key to bring up the slide show
  33. viewer help file.

  35. Installation of DLL files -- Possible DLL conflicts
  36.  
  37. To avoid conflicts with other programs, the installation program normally
  38. installs its DLL files in the Viewer directory you specify. These DLL
  39. files contain software packages supplied by other vendors. Because of the
  40. way Windows searches for DLLs, if there is an earlier, obsolete version
  41. of one of the DLLs located in your Windows or Windows System directories,
  42. these obsolete versions will override the ones in the Viewer directory.
  43. The files in question are the following:
  44.  
  45.     XQUERYW.DLL    Pegasus Imagaging Corp. JPEG decompression library
  46.     JEWIN.DLL
  47.  
  48. If versions of any of these files exist in your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  49. directories, you have several choices: 
  50.  
  51. 1) You can move the versions of these files from your Viewer directory to
  52. your Windows directory. This ensures that all your applications are using
  53. the latest version of the DLLs, but it may cause problems with other
  54. applications which happen to use the same DLLs, but for one reason or
  55. another do not work properly with the latest version.
  56.  
  57. 2) You can move the obsolete DLLs to the directories of the applications
  58. that require them. This is the safest technique.
  59.  
  60. Be careful when installing new applications. Some installation programs
  61. do not properly check version numbers - if they copy DLLs to your WINDOWS
  62. or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories, they can potentially overwrite newer
  63. versions of the same DLLs.
